Paanwala completes one-year in Auckland

- going to Christchurch and Wellington soon

Started on December 14 last year, Paanwala New Zealand, which in just under a year, is found in over 20 Indian restaurants and super-markets across Auckland, is looking to expand its footprint to the other two main centres in the new year.

Run and managed by the husband-wife duo of Sreeman and Saakshi Myadam, who immigrated to Auckland from Hyderabad in 2008, Paanwala is also opening a dedicated shop for pan lovers in Papatoetoe, South Auckland very soon.

Speaking to this newspaper, Sreeman further noted, “These are the two main initiatives we will be taking as we venture into the second year of Paanwala New Zealand. While the idea of making paans and serving it to the Indian community came from my sister-in-law, it was a natural progression of sorts, as all my family back home in Andhra is into the betel leaves business. One of my family member also owns a renowned paan shop in Hyderabad.”

“We source all the betel leaves used in making paans from Fiji, while the rest of the material that goes inside the paan – including gulkand, cloves, fennel seeds, coconut powder, red katha etc. are sourced from India. We don’t used any supari or nuts in our paans. Apart from the normal sweet paan, we also have additional flavours such as mint paan, sada paan, ladoo pan, red authentic paan, and chocolate paan, among others,” he added.
